Hello world!
My name is Carolyn. I am the wife of a good ol’ country boy, and we have two sweet, energetic boys. I love baking and cooking, reading, and playing the piano.
Welcome to a peek at my attempts at real food in real life.
I came across the idea of eating a real food diet through DaNelle Wolford over at Weed ’em and Reap. The more I read about the benefits of eating real food the more I liked what I saw. And it fit perfectly with our dreams of having a homestead. Being able to raise and eat our own real food. *sigh* Heaven.
We’ve only been trying to eat a real foods diet for the roughly the last two months. In many ways the transition to real foods was so much easier than I thought. I could still make my favorite foods, I just had to exchange a few ingredients. Like using butter instead of shortening in my chocolate chip cookies. And because I wasn’t purchasing any processed food, I was able to buy more than I usually do, and it was all good wholesome foods.
But after about 2 weeks it started getting harder. I started craving highly processed foods like chips, chili con queso (with Velveeta… sooo yummy, yet so processed), boxed Mac ‘n Cheese, Oreos… you get it. (It being right around Christmas and all the goodies and treats being passed around…)
I am ready to get back to striving to eat real foods 80% of the time. What about the other 20% of the time? That is for eating out with family and friends (who wants to eat out with someone who is super picky about where they eat, and then complains when they can’t find the exact foods for their diet of choice?), church functions, date night, etc.
I can’t promise a post every day, especially right at first. Life happens. Taking care of my two boys, ages 3 and 1.75, can take all my time and energy. Some days my biggest success is just getting everyone dressed, let alone cooking fantastic, blog worthy, meals every day. I am aiming to post at least twice a week. Hopefully on Tuesdays and Fridays.
